What is Physical Education/Personal Coaching?

Physical Education is a process of learning through physical activities. It is designed to improve fitness, develop motor skills and sportsmanship, increase knowledge of healthy and active living, and result in affects on emotional intelligence. Through Coaching, it is a means to encourage the development of motor skills, physical abilities, knowledge, reasoning,and a positive mental, emotional, and social awareness.

Who is involved?

Our trained Coach, certified in several areas of specialty, uses a variety of methods tailored to meet each child’s needs to most effectively reach the goals designed for your child.

Any child whose parents are interested in an individual and/or group session may participate.

How does it work?

The program establishes a clear structure of activities with visual cues, a routine, a clear start and end time, use of positive reinforcement, and communicating in a way that the child responds. The schedule of the program is designed to meet the individual child’s needs. For group sessions children of similar ages and/or abilities are paired.

Each week the child’s program will include various activities and concepts such as:

  • Running strides
  • Breathing techniques
  • Basic stretches
  • Agility circuits
  • Calisthenics
  • Scooter
  • Yoga
  • Tumbling
  • Dance
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Taking turns
  • “Team” support/encouragement

What is the goal of the Physical Education/Coaching Program?

The goal of the Physical Education/Coaching Program is not only physical activity and development but the development of the individual as a whole.

In addition to the health benefits that Physical Education provides,sports, exercise, and other physical activities can be a useful adjunct to traditional behavioral interventions, leading to improvements in the quality of life. Increased aerobic exercise can significantly decrease the frequency ofself-stimulating behaviors.Additionally, physical activity can discourage aggressive and self-injurious behavior while improving attention span.

Our Coach maximizes the physical potential of each individual child in an environment that encourages success, confidence, safety, and a sense of pride for oneself and others.
